Mark Tucker is a remarkable interpreter of the baroque repertoire and has performed and recorded alongside many of its leading exponents including Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, René Jacobs, Emmanuelle Haim, Ton Koopman, Sir Roger Norrington and Sigiswald Kuijken. Career highlights include appearances at the Salzburg Festival in Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610 under Harnoncourt; at the Edinburgh International Festival in Handel’s Israel in Egypt under Haim; and Galuppi’s L’Olimpiade at Teatro La Fenice. Of Anglo-Venetian parentage, Mark has a particular affinity with Italian music; and his recitals and lectures of 17th Century Italian music with Paula Chateauneuf (theorbo) have been well-received by critics and academics alike. Above all, his performances in the title role in Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo have brought international recognition and engagements across the globe. He has performed all three of Monteverdi’s surviving operas, including performances with De Nederlandse Opera in Pierre Audi’s acclaimed production of L’Orfeo, Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria, and L’incoronazione di Poppea.

Nordic Network For Early Opera gets new support!

The Danish Art Council's committe for Music Drama grants the Network with 200.000 DKK for the season 2009/2010 for new opera productions.

Nordic Culture Point grants the Network with a new 3-year network support of 30.000 EUR for 2009-2011.

The Danish Art Council's committe for Music grants the Network with 20.000 DKK for masterclasses and administrational expenses for 2009.

Caccini's Euridice and the Birth of Opera

The conference was organized by Nordic Network for Early Opera in collaboration with Copenhagen Renaissance Music Festival and The Royal Danish Academy of Music.

The event opened with a masterclass concert with excerpts from Caccini's Euridice, led and introduced by Marco Horvat and Deda Cristina Colonna.

The Vocal Theatre was the title of a masterclass & workshop coached by soprano and early music specialist Jill Feldman together with jazz singer Cæcilie Norby. The repertoire focused on operatic music by Claudio Monteverdi and his contemporaries.

The masterclass was organized by Nordic Network for Early Opera and held at Literaturhaus in Copenhagen May 4-6 2008.

Monteverdi and the Baroque Theatre was the title of a conference held November 25 2007 at Hofteatret in The Theatre Museum in Copenhagen, in conjunction with three performances of Monteverdi's opera L'Orfeo at the same venue. Speakers were:

• Lise Grosen Rasmussen - cand. mag. in italian language and medieval history

This was the first event arranged entirely by the Nordic Network.

L'ORFEO - Favola in musica da Claudio Monteverdi

A stage production of Monteverdi's opera from 1607, held at The Court Theatre in The Theatre Museum, Copenhagen, 23-25 November 2007.

The production was not actually a creation of the Nordic Network For Early Opera, but the other way around - the reason why the Network was initiated and took form (it all started in June 2007).

The core of the production team of L'Orfeo was thus the same persons that now constitutes the "board" of the network:

• Magnus Tessing Schneider - who directed the opera

• Peter Spissky - was leading the orchestra as a violinist

• Jette Barnholdt Hansen - functioned as a voice coach and worked on the text and declamation

• Björn Ross - initiated the project, produced the opera and made the videographic stage setting

We also made a ambitious 60 pages printed programme, with articles by Magnus and Jette. The programme can still be ordered for 50 dkk excl. shipping. Write to info@lorfeo.dk!
